Description: | Category 6 includes species that feed primarily on colonial insects - in particular, ants and termites. We would characterize these as myrmecophagous. Although plant parts, other invertebrates, and even vertebrates may be included in the diet on occasion, the modal tendency is toward feeding on the Isoptera and Hymenoptera. The Neotropical anteaters and the Old World pangolins are typical specialists in this category. |
